🎤 Your Voice Triumphed at the City Planning Commission Meeting!

Before the August 19th City Planning Commission meeting, we asked you to tell CPC to keep the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) flexible and move it forward. You made your voices heard loud and clear! Just look at the exceptionally long list of all written comments and the breakdown. There were 49 comments with sentiments that align with our call to action!

List of all written comments to CPC on August 19.

79% of written comments about the CLUP supported flexibility and moving forward.

And it wasn’t only the quantity of our comments that mattered—it was the quality. Watch this neighbor for more neighbors, Cathy, explain why flexible housing options are so important to her.

Because of your advocacy, CPC finished its revisions to the second draft of the CLUP. If the current schedule holds, the next version will be reviewed by CPC in about a month. CPC will send a final draft to Council for acceptance, at which point, the state-mandated 63-day review period will finally begin!

After the CLUP is passed by City Council in early 2026, we will need to push Council and Planning Commission to efficiently implement changes to the zoning code. Our advocacy will continue throughout implementation. With all of you voicing your support, we are sure to succeed!

🤝 Recap: Our First General Meeting

Wow, what a turnout! Thank you to everyone who joined our very first Neighbors for More Neighbors A2 General Meeting. It was incredible to feel the energy in the room as we took this exciting step forward in our mission to create a more vibrant Ann Arbor. Here are some key takeaways:

  • We are forming committees to help organize our volunteer workstreams. Each committee has one or more committee leads. We identified volunteer opportunities for each committee.

  • We shared the new More Neighbors A2 Volunteer Interest Form to help folks get more engaged. Please fill out this form! It will help us connect you to the right people and tasks that make the best use your time -- no matter how little time you have!

  • Neighborhood Week is in less than one month and we need volunteers. We created a separate form to register as a Neighborhood Week volunteer. Don’t miss this opportunity to work with our growing community!!

Stay tuned for the invitation to our next General Meeting in the fall!

🧼 Reminder: Show Kindness to New Neighbors at The Grove at Veridian

Neighbors For More Neighbors A2 will support our friends at Avalon Housing by donating essential supplies for the basic needs of their residents. The Grove at Veridian is Avalon's newest supportive housing development and home to dozens of new residents. The individuals and families residing there are transitioning out of homelessness into permanent, stable housing. We have the opportunity to show our support for them with a simple welcoming act. We are collecting essential supplies to donate to Avalon's basic needs pantry in honor of the new residents at The Grove. High-demand items include those that are not covered by food assistance programs, such as cleaning supplies - mops, laundry detergent, dish soap, all purpose cleaning sprays - as well as diapers, baby wipes, and infant formula. You may donate directly through Avalon’s Amazon wishlist. If you prefer to drop-off donations in person, please contact [email protected] to make arrangements.

🪧 August Challenge: Sponsor A Sign & Upcoming September Challenge

It is very important to our mission that yard signs remain free - and you can help with that! Please consider donating to Neighbors For More Neighbors A2 to help cover the costs - write “More Neighbors A2” in the Designation field. Just $20 would cover the cost of signs for you and your three nearest neighbors.

As August is coming to an end (what?!), we are excited to announce the September Challenge - Nurture Neighborhood Week! Here are a few ways you can help:

  1. Register to attend at least one event

  2. Sign up to volunteer

  3. Share a post on social media

  4. Chip in a few bucks or an in-kind donation so we can have food at Neighborhood Week events. Click here and select “Neighborhood Week 2025” in the dropdown menu. Sponsorship or in-kind donation? Email [email protected].

  5. Forward this email so you can encourage others to attend Neighborhood Week and sign the petition to join Neighbors for More Neighbors.

Thank you for being part of this movement. Together, we are making a significant impact on the future of Ann Arbor!
