Make a Difference Now: How to Support Neighbors Amid SNAP Changes

Join Lunches with Love (Saturday 11/1) & Support Local Food Pantries

Part of building a community we love is showing up for our neighbors.

SNAP benefits are being interrupted. Here are some things you can do to help our neighbors who are in need:

As of November 1, 2025, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits nationwide are being interrupted, including in Michigan. This is an immensely destructive and harmful thing to do, especially as many neighbors and their families are entering the holiday season. Many of us are all too familiar with how the holidays can be a particularly difficult time for those experiencing any kind of insecurity.

The time to support is now: let’s help mitigate the harm being done to many of our neighbors.

The communal way to help: Volunteer for Lunches with Love this Saturday

Join Neighbors for More Neighbors as we make Lunches with Love for Food Gatherers. We've got the supplies. Kids are welcome!

When and Where: THIS Saturday, November 1 from 11am-1 pm at the Downtown Library in the 3rd Floor Community Room.

The most effective way to help: Financial Donations

During this acutely stressful time, financial donations to local organizations fighting food insecurity are best. They provide the flexibility for organizations to pivot to support their clients in the best ways possible in the shortest amount of time. This can include purchasing more needed items, buying in bulk, and reducing food waste.

Other ways you can help:

Volunteering is another great way to help out. Some organizations need volunteers to transport and organize food donations. Other ways to help include food drives and pre-packaging meals. These needs can be highly specific to the organization so best to check out their websites (below) or reach out to them individually to see how best to support them right now.
